Good Morning papa, I know you are at peace and can’t feel anything anymore. I wanted you to know that I love you beyond what words can say. Driving past the house will never get easier no matter how long time passes. Time is not my friend right now. Time took you too soon. Time doesn’t slow down for anyone. Anyway papa love you and I hope you are drinking your coffee.

Sending my sincerest and heartfelt condolences to the McCloud family at this most difficult time. “Daddy” ( yes, I called him daddy too because he treated me like one of his own) and he will truly be missed on this side but our loss is indeed heavens gain. I will always have fond memories of “Daddy” in my mind and heart. He was indeed a gentleman, good father and a good human being all around. Thank you for everything you did for me and said to me. Take your well deserved rest “Daddy McCloud…I will Love you today, tomorrow and forever.

Mr. Walt. Is what my family called you. I never knew your middle name but I think it should be kindness. From the time we met, you treated me, Granville and my children as family. We didn’t have any family in North Carolina and didn’t know many people. You always had a smile on your face whenever we saw you. I don’t think there is anything that you couldn’t fix. When I look around my house and my office I see things that you repaired, assembled or painted for us. We never asked you for help. All you needed to know is that we had a need and you were there with your tools in hand. We can never thank you enough Mr. Kindness. I know that God celebrated when you came home but we will miss you.

I always found Walt to be a early riser on camp outs.
We often shared that first cup of coffee in the morning.

Just so the day would start off right.

Walt enjoy your eternal peace rest on the "Wings of Eagles"

My first meeting with Walt was on camping trips with the Scouts. He would usually be onto the 2nd pot of coffee when I woke up at 6:30. I expected to get up and re-start the fire, but he was always there asking why I slept in so late.

He helped to mentor the young men in our program over the years. If nothing else, they could count on Walt to remind them of "Rule #1" (no running in camp) when he yelled it at them when they forgot. It always made me smile when I heard him yell that in camp.

Walt served as the Eagle Coach/Mentor for my oldest son Nelson Brown. I was a relatively new Boy Scout leader at the time, and had no clue what all was involved in getting scouts from Life to Eagle. Fortunately, Walt had both the knowledge and the no-nonsense demeanor that Nelson needed to guide him along the path. I don't think I ever saw Walt smile at Nelson until that evening (13 years ago yesterday) when the final Board of Review was passed. All of a sudden, Walt was transformed from tough-guy taskmaster into a proud father figure. I don't know how many scouts were lucky enough to have Walt as their Eagle Coach/Mentor, but I do know that Nelson was lucky to have Walt!

I remember so much but what sticks out are the times we went to the naval yard together to serve. The was in the Navy and I was in the Marines. We would eat lunch together in his van, Drink a case of Rolling Rock and watch the EAGLES play. Then return back to work. He was like a second dad to me He will be missed❤️

Pop, thank you for your quiet strength, guidance, and willingness to put up the wet "eye kisses." You have always been a blessing to me even through the miles between us, life's challenges, and obstacles that were encountered along the way. I have such fond, loving, fun memories of you. The designated Girl Scout party DJ, the props you created for the plays I was in at Zion Baptist Church (specifically when I played OZ), the woodworking assignments you helped me with (umm...you created). I even learned my dancing and driving skills from you, Pop :). I will carry you in my spirit. Love you, always.

You were one of my biggest supporters. You were one of the first people to tell me you were proud of me. The first man to tell me that it isn't unmanly to cry. My mentor and my teacher. The disciplinarian when it was necessary. All of that you stepped into a role you didn't have to and took a punk kid with a lot of mouth and attitude under your wing. I am who I am today because of you. I just hope I can continue to live my life in a way that comes close to the giant I believe you to be.
